On Writing:

Writing is very, very hard.
Of the 29 days I try, it’s the 30th day I’m actually writing what I set out to.
And then there are the critics who can’t manage to write a decent sentence themselves; they will criticise you anyway.
Also, you have to be a great reader to be a great writer. Somebody who doesn’t read cannot write. It’s that simple. The ones who write without being readers write bombastic trash. The ones who praise them are also trash. Because they have nothing good to compare it to, the kind of writing that uses verbose words usually placed in the wrong context in their sentences. This is the real shit.
Stay true to your craft, to be a good writer. Read like hell, experiment and innovate with your craft. Excellence doesn’t come easy. Mediocrity does. And in the end, good writing is always simple, always enjoyed and sends the message across.
It’s your passion and love for the written word that will keep you going, not the measly amounts that you get for your craft. Money and craft never came close.

  1. I think well, I disagree w this! I don’t think, one needs to read other’s to be able to write something of their own! They can still be the best, if they have all the basics clear! It depends on how creative one is! People who are voracious readers, might write things, that are well, okayish! So, it depends!

    1. Thanks for reading Srijan. What I meant is..being a reader improves ones writing. If one has never read anything other than school textbooks, the quality of their writing cannot be high. It’s all about exposure. Example..kike if you have never travelled outside India, can you truly say you know about other countries? One needs exposure to perfect the craft. I’m not talking about imitating other writers. Simply about being a reader compared to being a non reader!

      1. Well, I understand what you mean, but there are many ways, other than reading! So, some people, who might not read a lot, yet can write just better than the rest! Anyway, you’re right, one to be knowledgeable about his/her art! Otherwise, they’d get buried! Wishing you the best!
